The Department of Sociology bears more than one intellectual source, but the effort to seek the meaning of society probably never changes, and this effort is more timely than ever. Sociology at Peking University is in search of a grand narrative of society, as expected by Mr. Yan and other forerunners, that is amenable to Chinese civilization.
More than 100 years ago,Yan Fu, president of Peking University, translated "sociology" into "group study", which started a glorious course of ups and downs of Chinese sociology.The pursuit of the concept of "sinicization of sociology" by several generations of sociologists carries the theoretical and methodological exploration of social investigation and community research,and embodies the practice and ideal belief of enriching the people and cultural consciousness.The sociology of Peking University is rooted in Chinese tradition, keeps up with the pace of The Times, integrates with the breath and life of the Chinese people, and shares the same destiny with the development of the country.Work tirelessly, dare not to ease.With unremitting efforts, the sociology of Peking University has inherited the cause of its predecessors.
