Our department upholds the philosophy of "seeking knowledge from practise" advocated by pioneers like Fei Xiaotong and places a strong emphasis on integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application when training our students. The department provides funding support, professional guidance and abundant opportunities for field research to provide students with insights into both historical and contemporary issues in Chinese society.

Currently, we have 15 research bases dedicated to fieldwork across the country, located in Fengtai and Qianshan in Anhui province, Haining, Songyang, and Yongjia in Zhejiang province, Guyuan in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Jiangyin and Kunshan in Jiangsu province, Feixian in Shandong province, Luoyang in Henan province, and Lai Guang Ying in Beijing. Student will have the opportunity to conduct fieldwork at these locations. Students are given the opportunity to conduct fieldwork at research bases of their own choice.
